After an electrifying game, the Canadian mens ice hockey team earned their trip to the championship game vs Sweden.
A stellar performance by Carey Price and the rest Team Canada to keep leading scorer Phil Kessel and the Americans off the scoresheet.
After 2 periods of play, the Canadians got off to a 1-0 lead. Jamie Benn answered the call with a beautiful tip from a point shot by Jay Boumeister. It was a back and forth game between the two teams, which shaped up to be the best the Canadians have looked so far this tournament. Even with 20 minutes left, it was still anyones game.
The 3rd period was a great display of hockey between the two countries. With almost equal scoring chances it was still anyones game. The Americans came very close but in the end they couldn’t capitalize on the powerplay, or when the goalie was pulled in the closing minutes. In the end it was the strong Canadian defence and goaltending that lead them to the victory of the valiant USA.
After Canada finished what was their best game so far, they are off to the finals. Canada will be looking at another sweep this year in hockey after the woman’s ice hockey team took gold in yesterday game versus team USA.
USA’s goals have been 20-7 while Canada was at 14-3.
