So Italy passed law, making the green goodies on par with the big H. You got it. The Italians believe that possession of pot is on the same page as holding Heroin. With all the progression happening within the States, and the 18 signatures from congress to President Obama, it hurts to see Italy, a country founded on Mid Day naps, turning its back on the sticky.
Now I don’t know what kind of dank they’ve got kicking over there on the boot, but whatever it is, if it’s on the same level as Heroin, we need it here ASAP. I don’t care what scientists we need to kidnap or bribe with a fat slice of mamma’s lasagna, our pot needs to advance with its Italian counterparts. Or maybe we’re not the only place with crack smoking officials.
Heres a look at their legislation:
Lengthier sentences. Under the stricter drugs law, lighter drugs such as cannabis and hashish were classified as equal, in legal terms, to Class A drugs cocaine and heroin. This increased the sentences for the cultivation, sale and trafficking of cannabis from 2-6 years to 6-20 years.Following the court’s ruling, the previous drug law giving reduced sentences automatically takes effect.
Neither law made it a criminal offence to consume cannabis but both criminalised its possession.
The ruling by the constitutional court has split parties “left and right”, Italy’s Ansa news agency reports.
“The ruling puts the final word on one of the most absurd laws that parliament has ever passed in recent years,” said Alessia Morani, an MP with the centre-left Democratic Party (PD).
But other MPs, such as Maurizio Gasparri, said the ruling was “a big mistake that risks promoting dealing and consuming drugs,” Ansa reported.
